I'm in shock. This dry-looking letter confirms I can claim tickets for the 2013 Bayreuth Festival, for performances of Lonhengrin, Tannhäuser, Holländer & The Ring. The performance of Siegfried is on my birthday. I've entered the ticket lottery every year since the last time I went in 2003, but I never expected to hit the jackpot in 2013, the Wagner Bicentennial, of all years. It's impossible. I can't believe it.
Besides the confirmation letter, the envelope contained a seating chart & a postcard to send in to reserve accommodations. The next step is to pay for the tickets by bank transfer, but I'm not yet able to think straight.

Oh, what great news!
I decided not to apply for tickets through the Wagner Society for 2013.
I'm still in a state of disbelief. I expected to wake up this morning to the realization that it was some perverse dream.
I always apply for tickets directly through the festival box office. I got so used to getting the "due to unprecedented demand ..." letter in January that it never occurred to me I might actually get tickets this time around. I had contemplated joining the Wagner Society specifically for 2013, but then the allotment fiasco happened. Turns out I do just fine on my own!
You are a Scary German after all. Congratulations.
I am scared myself! This should not be happening!
Well, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy--or a crazier German. Do you need someone to carry your bags?
