Festspiele Eintrittskarte

So here's what a ticket for The Ring at the 2013 Bayreuth Festival looks like. It's kind of scary just holding it. It's one ticket for all 4 Ring operas. I think I need to keep this in a safe deposit box until August.

Congratulations, again!

When I went, I idealistically thought the single ticket for the Ring was to reinforce the view of it as a single organic work of art, rather than four separate operas. Then someone in the know told me it was actually to make it more difficult for those who might be tempted to sell one of the operas on the Bayreuth black market.

Thanks Lisa!

Patrick: Now why would anyone want to do that? Those crafty Germans. My name is also printed on the tickets, theoretically providing another way to discourage people from illicitly transferring tickets. Does that mean I'll need my passport to get into the performance?

I'd carry photo ID, just in case. I was told that someone was caught trying to re-sell a ticket, and the Festival not only confiscated the tickets but draped that seat in black for those performances. The Wagners do not play around.

Yikes. I hope that's not a true story. I'd hate to think of a seat going empty during a performance. Well, I guess I'll wait until after the summer to change my name to Arbuthnot Pumpernickel.
