Three Heads Five Arms

Three Heads Six ArmsI passed through the Civic Center this afternoon in order to check on the progress of Zhang Huan's enormous installation, Three Heads Six Arms. It looks like one of the arms is yet to be attached. The scale alone is enough to make one feel displaced. It looks like a dropped token from a fantasy board game belonging to giants. SFMike has documented the assembly process. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for this Wednesday, May at 10am.

I just noticed the truncated sixth arm myself, but I think that's the way the thing was designed.

Interesting. I had assumed that the assembly was not quite done. I hope that they remove the chain-link fence that surrounded it yesterday. It really obstructs the view.

I presume the chain link fence is coming down for the "official" opening on Wednesday the 12th, where Gruesome Newsom and various dignitaries will be there for speeches and photo ops at 10AM. Later that same evening at 7PM there's going to be a "conversation" with the artist over at the Asian Art Museum.

Thanks for the additional event information. What with the giant standing woman in Octavia Boulevard, big is in around Civic Center.
